Rick Rangno is one of Ottawa's most in-demand trumpet players. Recently retired from the Central Band of the Canadian Forces, Rick is now working full-time as a freelance trumpet player and teacher.

Born in Winnipeg, Rick spent his teen years in Kelowna, BC. He graduated from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver with a Bachelor of Music degree before joining the Canadian Forces as a trumpet player. Since settling in Ottawa he has been very active in the local music scene as a member of various groups including Rocket Rached and the Fat City 8, The Jivewires, The Funky Presidents, The Custums, Azuka, the J.W. Jones Band, Superband and the Ottawa Jazz Orchestra (OJO) in which he holds the solo trumpet chair and is also a member of the orchestra's artistic planning team.

Rick cites Freddie Hubbard, Miles Davis, Chet Baker and Kenny Wheeler as influences. He has a wide range of musical interests but is particularly enthused when playing kickass horn-driven funk and blues a la James Brown, Tower of Power and Roomful of Blues.

This is the beginning of Rick's new website which will be expanded over the coming months.

Rick can be contacted at (613) 749-6602 or .
